A couple months ago I wrote a post about sex work in Chennai. In the post I noticed that newspapers continually run stories about busting prostitution gangs, Kushboo's run in with the DMK and some research about the spatial distribution of red light districts around the city. People linked to the post around the Internet and even today it continues to draw visitors.
But what sort of visitors?
I run a simple tracking program on this website to see who is logging on and what they are reading and where they come from. While the number of hits has been declining since I stopped my daily updates, it amazes me how many people find my site through Google when they are obviously looking for something else.

The geography of search for sex is revelatory. India ranks at the top for search for the keywords sex, prostitutes, call girls etc.

Oh btw...if you hadnt noticed already...in South India(except some parts of Kerala)...when a person meets or talks to a stranger who is a female...he/she addresses as "Amma". You can try it out with veggie vendor...laundry maid...maid servant...etc.

A simple but essential political correction needed in your article.
Kushboo was targetted not just for her statement on "sex/virginity" but for her previous actions against a movie director - Thankarbachan.
He is politically connected to PMK and he made a statement that subtly hinted on the "easy" nature of actress work and casting couch. This was strongly condemned by the actresses and Kushboo wanted the director to fall on their feet and apologize in the "Actors Council Meeting".
Since, he was politically connected to PMK which also talks about "Tamil pride", this incident was used to get even with Kushboo.
